Sanctuary

Much like the picture, above, it was humid and hot in the St. Thomas Woods near Bardstown, Kentucky in July.

Taking the nature trail in the church woods is a special way to blend with one’s surroundings. A way to take stock and to contemplate the wonders all around us.

This property is one of the few places in the United States where the American Chestnut tree continues to grow. Isn’t that fitting? A species of tree brought down with the plague-like Chestnut blight has found its sanctuary at St. Thomas’ woods.
