Cloisterwood
Cloisterwood is a hermitage for the mind. A place to go when there is no place to go. A place where only you have discovered the Way. Designed to share thoughts and images among those who seek peace, quiet and contemplation.

I took this picture yesterday, outside the kitchen window. She and her mate have been feeding two young ones after a catastrophe. Her nest was knocked to the ground by a predator of some sort and the two young ones were on the ground, beside the nest.
I relocated the nest to a fork in the tree and returned the little ones to their home. After some serious scolding of me, and a few dive-bomb runs, she began to gather food for them again. All seem to be doing fine this morning. Since they made it through the night they will probably be just fine.
Nothing like a Mama to get us through the hard times!

Solo
The young sparrows, having received their flying lessons from Mom and Dad, are flying solo today. Unsure, clumsy and ever hesitant they make their final approaches into deck rails, windows, tree branches and even the ground with limited success.
Flocking instincts run deep as they collectively tumble into landing spots and each other. Their skills not quite ready to match their wills, they soar past the intended branch, crashing into the leaf-filled safety net of an old maple tree. Looking a bit confused, but head held high, they try again and again. With each attempt the skill levels increase. Soon, failed attempts improve into controlled crashes.
More flare, less speed, turn with the tail feathers coordinated with the wings, into the wind and steer away from glass of any kind. Soar up, drift down, push off with the legs and remember that some things move when landed upon. Balance, coordinate and then .... FLY!
